Like last year, I feel a lot of teams want to go with a stronger drivetrain and I believe that is feasible.
But, also like last year, some teams went for a fast drivetrain and I believe they did pretty good. I would go with a faster H-drive if you want speed, but do whatever you want, really.

These are some great points! This year our team is probably going to do an h or x drive, maybe an x because it is cooler, and more complex so it is potentially better for book. One of our old sister teams had built an x drive for a previous game (i believed it was the game that used bucky balls) that looks perfect for this game so we have some inspriation.
So⦠I wouldnāt pick something because it is cooler or ābetter for the bookā. You should follow the design process and make a decision matrix to determine which is actually better without bias. Unless itās just for fun of course
Movement-wise I think this drivetrain is great, but the shape is pretty inconvenient cuz u donāt have much space to mount mechanisms & such. X-drives and H-drives are probably a better choice since they leave lots of space in the middle of the robot.
Would a mec drive be practical? I think it would be to only need 4 motors for drive because you could gear them and still have some decent pushing power
