Elevator Ideas for huey robot? ( vex iq )

Hi, so my group and I are going to compete soon but we have one problem, our elevator lift thingy is super slow and shaky, so it drops stuff a lot. We tried changing the gear ratio and it kinda helped but not really. If anyone has any design ideas or modification ideas, please let us know. Thanks a lot

Can we see a picture because it is hard to help someone when we don’t know what your robot looks like.

Yeah, sorry about that, here is a photo of our robot elevator on Huey ( it is modified )

It looks like to need to tighten your chain, though i may be wrong.

Is the whole lift shaky, or is it the claw that is shaky?

Great job on attempting to modify Huey. I can’t tell from you picture, but how many motors are you using on your lift? Depending on where the motor(s) is/are located, it appears you may be attempting to increase speed by driving a 24 tooth sprocket into a 16 tooth. This increase in speed = equal decrease in available torque. Conversely, if driving the 16t into a 24t, you will of course gain torque but lose speed. Iirc, the Huey motor is driving the bottom-most sprocket, in which case you would have increased torque while reducing speed. When my son’s team wants to make things both faster and without losing torque, or even adding it, I ask them if they can do both through gearing alone. They learned through many attempts the answer was no lol. They need to add more power somehow. Hopefully that helps, and good luck!

My team put the gears and stuff on the inside, though we later realized we didn’t need the bottom axle at all. We also added some more stabilization on the top and made it 2-motor. You can see all that in the image below. :down_arrow:

My robot’s lift was also shaky until we made all the changes I described.

you shouldve put the motor to the pics right more in and use the small blue pin connectors to put it in, that is what I did and got 83 oints in 1 match where 80 of them were from my team

First of all guys, thank you so much for all your ideas and comments and I am sorry that I wasn’t able to reply since our school bans this forum at home. First of all, @maxoliver We can’t tighten the chain any more at all, but thanks for the suggestion . @5020_Offical The whole lift isn’t that shaky since we made the modifications but it still is, and so is the claw. @argonbeam I will share a better photo of our robot so you can see where the motors are at, and also thanks a lot for your thoughts on this matter. @3383B Thank you for showing us that photo, we will try it out and see if it works, Thanks a lot . @96676A I will send you a better photo. Thank you guys a lot again and I will send a better phtot of the robot as soon as I have access to it ( our school keeps the robots in a locked cabinet when we aren’t using them )

If you have any of those ropes/strings, you should use them to help support your claw because it looks like it is heavy.
