Hi guys. Our next competition is in 1 week and we only have 1 meeting to complete our hook intake (drivetrain is about 50% done). We only have 2 hours to complete the bot, so I want to ask about how to build faster and not waste a lot of time. Also, will the idea below can be build in about 1 hour? Our old hero bot does not work really well and this is a big competition. Thank you.
We have a hook intake that picks up directly off the ground like the robot in your video. Use a polycarbonate hook if possible, even if you have to cut it with scissors or a bandsaw or something. Bend the polycarbonate with a heat gun around a ring. Do NOT just run the hook continuously, either use a distance sensor if you have time to activate the hook only when a ring is close, or give your driver manual control.
However, this cannot be built in one hour. The amount of tuning is less than other systems, but it will take at least a week to get this working in tandem with a mobile goal clamp. I would recommend just doing drive practice and improving the programming on the herobot, it will probably perform better than a nonfunctioning hook.
Ok so I would worry on finishing your drivetrain, don’t even think about the intake, at least with a drivetrain, you can play some defense. Tell all your teammates to work on a specific part and you should get it done in time.
Yeah, it’s possible, but you’re probably gonna need way more time to tune the intake. If you really want to do well at this competition, maybe think about bringing a robot, parts, and a mobile goal home with you if you can so you can work on the robot.
Also there are loads more videos on you tube explaining how the hook mech works and the J-hawk video is probably not the best video for reference since it is from very early on in the season.
Can you send a picture of your intake?
Do you think this idea can be build in 1 hour? We are not building the intake with the little flex wheels because the conveyor belt can intake the ring just fine. I know it can’t score as good as a hook but we can only work on the robot at school for 1 hour, and a big competition is right after the meeting so we are desperate because our herobot is broken. We will try to improve the intake after the competition
No, there is almost no intake that can be built in one hour. I will try to get a picture of my robot here at some point, but I would highly recommend just fixing your herobot.
