This is my first time actually documenting, and I’ve done a bunch of research on other people’s notebook formats, but I wanted to hear some people’s opinions on it.
I have not scanned in the team intro, cover, or table of contents yet.
PDF made in Adobe scan
I think it looks really nice! I really like how you listed all of the possible options for different mechanism choices and provided plenty of visuals! Keep up the amazing work!
I scanned my current document for v5 over under competition 2023-2024, and converted it to a pdf.
I recognize that the cover, table of contents, and team introduction is missing.
Criticism and opinions wanted
I didn’t have time to go any further than the “Primer” / Rules of the game, but one thing I would keep in mind for the future is this:
Generally, you don’t just want to copy-paste the majority of the game manual. Judges should already have a pretty good idea about the general rules. Rather, it would probably be better if (in the future) you picked certain specific rules that you thought might be important, then explainedwhy they are important.
I think it’s very well written and composed. The diagrams were very well drawn and details and I like how you added which team members were there and what everyone did during meetings. The quality of it really shows how much effort you put into researching and making it. Good job!
Overall it is a very well presented notebook, both in drawings and writing. One thing I would suggest is to make it as easy as possible for judges to give you a high score on the notebook rubric. The easiest way to do this is to title sections of your notebook after the sections in the Engineering Design Process portion in the rubric. The other thing I would suggest doing is utilizing more pictures. While hand drawn images imo look better and show that you have put a lot of time and effort into them, they take a much longer time than a normal digital printed out picture would. This extra time could be more effectively used to go into more depth in your explanations. But that’s just me being picky, this is a great notebook! Good luck in Over Under!
I did try to title some of it “research” or “Design” or “Prototyping”, but looking on it now after you said that, i did realize i could have done it better, or on more of them, thank you for the advice :D. Later in the notebook, i did start adding more pictures, especially over the documenting of the last few days we worked on the robot (not in the pdf, didn’t update it), even having 5 pictures for one day, and four for another.
