High stakes drivetrain

I need advice for the drive train. My team is using a six wheeled design, how many motors should I use per side?

Thanks for the insight! I was just confused about whether 6 motors was too much, especially when I can only use a total of eight.

This would require testing and would depend on how many motors you have in other mechanisms, but I would just use however many motors you have left over (can’t use an odd number thought). Probably that will be a 6-motor drive, or 3 per side. Also, in response to the post above me, I think 300rpm on 3.25 inch wheels would be pretty slow. Just remember not to make your drivetrain faster than you can control, because that usually slows down scoring.

Yes, all top teams are using 6 motor drive. which leave one 600 rpm motor for the intake, and 2 half(5.5w) for the high stake.

As for me (i know you dont really care about my opinion but imma share it anyway :shrimp: :shrimp:) I would use a four motor drice, but thats only because our teams cable managment is a COMPLETE mess so yeah

My team uses 6 motors and a 6;1 ratio for gears and i also recommend green motors

That’s 1200rpm.

If you’re aiming for 3:2, you can run 72:48, which leaves enough space between wheels for spacers and such (over 36:24, which is pretty much impossible). For 2:1, 72:36 is a pretty good choice, but the 72T gears will come close to scraping the field since they are just slightly smaller than a 3.25 in wheel.

Not saying that you’re wrong, but testing drive layouts is pretty time consuming as you have to rebuild for every new speed.

we’ve found that direct drive with the 4 inch wheels is a viable option. it’s a little slower than most drivetrains, but also has more torque, and is about as mechanically simple as you can get.

we are curently running a 6 motor drive on blue cartridges geared down for 450 RPM on 3.25 wheels, do not use green motors on your drivetrain as gearing up introduces significant amounts of friction and is unnecessary if you have access to blue cartridges, I also would recommend your team tests what your driver is comfortable with, starting at 360rpm which uses a 36t gear to drive a 60t gear. i also recommend that your team uses 3.25 wheels as they give a nicer variation in speeds, and contrary to what @sweetspotmaster smaller wheels have more torque than larger wheels due to having to spin more to complete the same distance as 4-inch wheels (I forget the exact science on it)

sorry 18:1 i was thinking about my intake
