I would recommend printing off your digital notebook. It’s a lot easier to add your own hand drawn pictures and I think it overall feels more professional (This is subjective)

There is this really really good app I remember using in the past: PhotoScan – scanner by Google Photos

You can draw on paper and then when you are done you can use your phone using the app to get really good scans using a decent camera on your phone.

Our team uses an app called Concepts (windows, iOS, android) to do our drawings as it has really helpful features. We usually then screenshot and paste into the notebook.

@68031B while I do think hand-drawn is better for early sketches, it can be hard to get enough detail for proper planning. Also where I am most competitions don’t even take physical notebooks any more

@anon4126930 my personal favourite is Adobe Scan as that hasn’t got any watermarks and also is great for scanning long documents in general.

For Concepts do you need to use a drawing tablet or ipad. Is it viable to use on a phone or with a mouse?

you could totally use it with a mouse! I don’t know about using your hands though, ig you could buy a cheap touchscreen pen or something. I would recommend using a pen device though, for example a tablet with a pen. I wouldn’t recommend drawing tablet as one of the main features is its snap to grid.

I use PowerPoint as my “cad” for mechinisms of m robot… Cad would be easier though.
