I mean yeah I’ve had 12+ hour days here and there. Yeah I’ve had many and many 8-9 hour days. But there is no way I AVERAGE 11+ hours a day. That is just unrealistic for every day for an entire year
umm, yeah that number decreases as your grade and classes increase
1 hour of homework would be nice to have, but sadly that isn’t reasonable for most students. I think you need to increase some numbers in your calculations.
I didn’t make this post to talk about how unhealthy my daily routine is but pretty much all I do is robotics lmao

If you average over 11 hours a day and haven’t won worlds then what are you doing?? Like what can you possibly be spending that much time actively working on Vex. This doesn’t count discord, forums, etc. I’m pretty sure if you get that much practice in you’d be a god-tier driver, or god tier in something. It’s either you’re insane and keep making the same mistakes, you’re god tier at Vex and I’ve never heard of your team, or you’re lying.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a team like 7k put in 4000+ hours CUMULATIVE across all members on the team, but I HIGHLY doubt any one person is putting in that much time into anything. If there were that many teams putting in that much active work into vex (comparatively speaking) then the competition levels would be significantly higher. But that is not what I saw at worlds.
Sorry for the rant, I just can’t believe anyone is doing that. Even for a dedicated person, that’s more than a full time job. Not to mention BURN OUT, no one is immune to burn out. It’s just basic human psychology.
Not really I just never heard of your team before. Granted, the sample size of this survey is relatively small, I just highly doubt that many people spend that much time on Vex.
Personally I am a one man team so I have to do everything so I have to put a lot more time into vex then a person on an average size team would have to.
how are you guys calculating this? like if you are taking in consideration competitions and i don’t really know what a cumulative 500 hours looks like.
for us, we have 4 official hours a week with variable unofficial hours and our team started in like mid-july. so each season lasts around 40 weeks so i’ll say like 9 hours a week. so like 360 hours to start.
in tower takeover we went to 11 events with calamari, speedway and states each being a 2 days thing. so each local event lasted around 16 hours starting at 5-6 returning home at like 8-10. so add like 224 hours.
so each 7701x member spent around like ~600 hours including overhead with our driver and programmer bringing robot home to grind auton and practice driving like basically every day so maybe like ~700-800 hours
so I probably have a cumulative ~1750 hours in vex in 4 years.
only if i could add vex robotics to steam >:(
Since I made this poll I should point out I’m counting when you research, discuss, or design anything related to vex in addition to time spent building coding notebooking practicing etc

Answer to both is yes, the poll is just asking how much time you spend doing anything related to vex
Think this is too difficult to quantify.
And honestly, I wouldn’t know how often or how much time each of my members think about Vex or text their team mates about vex outside the lab.
My suggestion is that to get a more reliable data, you might need to remove certain areas of ambiguity and just scope your definition of time spent narrower.
Edit: to add on to my point - I only want to know how much time is spent doing productive work, or translated into actual actions. Daydreaming about vex shouldn’t be counted. Else you will need to include how much time you spent dreaming abt vex while sleeping.
During the time where competitions are like every weekend I would literally spend more time at school working on robotics than the time I actually spent at school. I also spent more time at school in a day than I did at home

I’m not writing a research paper on this, I’m just looking for a general overview of how much time vex occupies the minds of other people that’s all
I mean if we are talking about literally just thinking about vex, in shower, falling asleep, thinking during classes, etc, then yeah maybe I’m reaching 4000. That’s insanely hard to try to quantify though. Like I’m a nut and have had vex dreams so like I don’t know how to count that. Polls can be whatever you want, but the answers will vary insanely, since there will be little to no consistency with criteria.

But if it is just some fun thing that you are getting the forum ppl to be involved in, and not interested in the accuracy of the data, then maybe state it clearly from the beginning?
