I saw a lot of teams use zip-tying to mount their motor? Does anyone have a CAD to explain it? or can you just tell me what it does
Are you sure they are zip tying to the metal or is it a quick swap where the zip tie holds the motor together
Teams do this so that they can easily remove the motors without having to unscrew them, whether it’s to swap in fresh ones when they’ve overheated, or replace them when they’ve broken.
The first step is to unscrew the motor mount from the rest of the motor (as if you were replacing the cartridge) and then to screw the mount on on its own. Then using zip ties you hold the rest of the motor onto the mount. Personally I do this using three, with one on each side of the mount and the third going around the first two to stop them from sliding off. You shouldn’t need to cut the zip ties when taking off the motor.
But if you want to be EXTRA crazy, you can use rubber bands!
Just double them up and put them on in the same pattern as the zipties, and boom! You can just take the rubber bands off when you’re having motor issues!
(Thanks bill from 4082b for teaching me this)
Sounds like a mad scientist is on your team. I like it!
Can confirm, rubber bands are the way to go.
