My team is making a 450RPM drivetrain on 2.75” Omni wheels. However, we have an issue; the 48T gears won’t fit directly into the Omni wheel. We probably can’t use spacers between, because our drivetrain spacing is 3 holes (1.5”), so we don’t really have room to spare. Is there a way to fix this, or do we need to use larger wheels?
I am running 3hole gap drive train with 2.75wheel and 48 tooth gear, to accomplish this sawed off the outer ring of half the gear. It works perfectly if you are willing to halfway damage the gears.
The most common solution I know of is to chamfer the gears by grinding away one edge so that it fits within the omni rollers.
You’ll need to bevel (with a dremel) the inside edge of the gear so it’s lower profile is shaved down. You can also cut it in half and use spacers.
All you can do is either increase the spacing a bit more or get some bigger wheels. 48T HS gears are kinda weird when being fitted with 2.75s.
Your best two options are:
- Shave down/bevel the gear so it can fit.
- Use a 4 wide gap and use spacers.
