Actually the other way around, I looked up kinds of linkages that I could use for something I need, and in the process learned what a Klann linkage was (through Wikipedia, of course).

Back in 2011, we took a BEST robotics team to Regionals at Auburn U. They had their architectural engineering students show off their kinetic sculptures as part of the competition. The students had to manually operate the kinetic butterflies and walkers (shown in the pic) between most matches. It was overkill as much as they did it, but really intrigued all the kids and exposed them to the concept… even if they were annoyed the butterflies blocked the view of the field.
