In a game and the game ends the motors release and it doesn't keep a fixed position

If you go to the device info screen on the V5 brain and tap on the icon of the brain itself, it will show the current VEXos version.

It’s not a programming issue, the code shuts off at the end of the match so this is already just out of the question. You need something to keep the motor from spinning even after the end of the match when it is automatically set to coast. The easiest way in my opinion would be finding the right gear ratio to make it hold when the motor isn’t moving. You would just have to mess around with different high torque gear ratios until you get one that holds when you have the weight of a MOGO.

On that note, I’m wondering if the platform tips after time is up, would referees score as the platform was right before the match end bell rang, or how it settles at the end of the match? Does the manual have anything about that?

According to G18, They score it as whatever it is when all scoring objects, field elements, and robots come to rest, so it would count as how it settles at the end of the match.

Thanks, I didn’t know there was a rule about this. Assume the following (possibly very rare) situation:

Red has barely climbed and balanced, and powering off the motors will result in the platform tipping
Blue is doing some action such that they are at full speed at the moment the bell rings (t+0).

At t+1, the platform starts tipping
At t+2, the blue robot coasting ends
At t+3, the platform fully falls and nothing is moving anymore

So, from my interpretation of the rule, the referees will score at t+3 or later.
If so, this is an interesting (theoretical, rare) case to consider for people in OP’s position (maybe also my team).

Yes. This exact scenario happened to my team before.

In a finals match

That the difference of whether or not we parked decided the outcome of the match

Yep exactly. I know this because the exact thing happened to my team during the first match of elims at our first competition of the season. We would have won the match, we had balanced the platform as the time ended which would have has us win by 26 points but we had too much momentum so when it ended and set to coast we kept moving and tipped it the other way loosing us the match.
