What are your initial thoughts on the game? Almost looks like TPxCU in my opinion.
I think I kinda sucks ngl, it feels poorly thought out, and why’s it so low scoring??
I won’t be competing this next year, but I decided to look at it regardless, and I have to say, I’m seeing a lot of resemblance to some of the original VEX games, specifically the 2010-2011 game. If y’all get the chance, look up VEX Round Up.
My thoughts exactly, this feels like a hodgepodge of other games, with very few original elements. I think people will find ways to get high skills scores very quickly in the season.
Ok, initially I did not like it but. I actually do see why this is the GDC’s favorite game. It does look like it will a lot of fun! Tipping Point 2.0!
Well, our advisor is pushing us to go into VRC next year, hoping the game would be relatively simple in mechanism terms, and my first thought was:
We’re cooked
I love it!!!
This is going to be very interesting.
Do the rings slide easily onto the goals? Or do they require a little push?
Seeing as they are a little hard to descore, they will require some (not much) effort to score since the little rubber cap has to flex.
I think it could be fun, I wonder what the expansion limits are?
Wallbots…
I feel like elevation is going to be kind of trivial to accomplish, aince we’re going straight from over under, where the winch hang works really well for a high hang, to this.
Yea, I predict a lot of winch’s straight from this years game
Soooo… i think i might’ve kinda called it. Hoping i can actually build something that works for it though. Im still shocked over the negative points. Makes me think the whole game will be won in the last couple seconds. Going for the hang will be dangerous, as it means ditching your other points and rising negatives. Honestly im worried its too competitive.
Taking it back to games like Round up and Gateway, games that were crazy challenging and a pain.
I honestly don’t know what to think…
This will be my last season of IQ and I’m excited to go into V5. It really gives me old vibes, but I literally didn’t play in any season before Slapshot. I really like/dislike that right now. I’ll have to look at it some more to get a definite like or dislike for me on it. Of course, I also have to compete in it.
It’s taking elements from their previous games and adding onto it, they went from a game with a simple design and went for something that’s more complex. Resetting the game is going to be a pain, auton? skills? this is definitely more challenging for sure and competitive. A lot more risk is involved too like he said.
This reminds me of the purple donuts from tipping point. And will VRC add an award for lowest score possible like in golf lmao?
The HS rings are SO MASSIVE. Basically 2x the TiP rings in every dimension
Nope… it is Round Up x Gatewa
Why do you think it is poorly thought out?
And also, low scoring doesn’t mean it is a bad game. If you want to, just multiple all the scorings by a factor of 5 - and it will become a high scoring game. But really, this is not what makes a game good or bad.
As one of those that came from the wild Wild West era of VRC, I will say that GDC has effectively combined the best elements of Round Up and Gateway.
It will be fun and interesting
To me, it feels like an oddly strange copy of tipping point and round up put together, which isn’t necessarily bad, however I think I had my hopes up for a more action packed game like this years and last years. Although I’m sure it’ll grow on me throughout the season:)
