Is a hotdog a sandwich or just a hotdog?!?!?!

if i ordered a sandwich and was served a hotdog i’d send it back

SIR “I WANTED A BEEF SANDWICH” Server: It is a beef sandwich .

Dude it’s neither, Hotdogs are a Liquid.

Hot dogs fall under the general category of “sandwich”, and likely also qualify as a “sub”, which I consider a category of sandwich. When you go to Subway, for example, their subs use common and uncommon sandwich toppings/fillers, between a long loaf of bread cut length-wise and folded as opposed to width-wise and stacked (which constitutes a typical sandwich). Hot dogs employ the same principle, but the type of bread is changed, though it can vary. I would also like to clarify that bread is made from wheat grains or a processed wheat-grain product and an active culture to “plump” it up and give it air pockets of some sort.

A taco, on the other hand, does not use “bread”, as many kinds (hard-shell included) use corn as the primary ingredient, not wheat. White flour tortillas, on the other hand, do not use an active culture when it is made (I think) and therefore does not rise with air pockets, like actual bread. Therefore, anything made with tortillas is not a sandwich. They have their own categories, like tacos (open-top), and burritos or wraps (ingredients are enclosed and wrapped up).

Change my mind.

@Royal_Freedom you’re so extra

You mean…
I’m so E N L I G H T E N E D ?

Exactly, bo1 is unfair to competitors!

Hotdogs are sandwiches.
They have the same bread shape as a sub, and subs are sandwiches, so hotdogs are hot sandwiches.

A poptart is a sandwich.

A hot dog relates to the cylinderical meat part of the hot dog combination between buns and various condiments, so no, a hot dog is not a sandwich. Take from a guy who has been living with allergies all his life.

That is true, a hot dog on its own is the main ingredient for the food item, but it also refers to the completed food item itself.

So basically, using that same logic, a BLT wouldn’t be a sandwich because it is referred to by the initialization of its ingredients (Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato), and not its status as a sandwich. I’m pretty confident we can say that a BLT is still a sandwich, despite its name.
[EDITED TO ADD THIS NEXT PART]
@Robo_Eng_13 If you want me to be technical, a PopTart is a baked item, possibly more related to a dumpling or filled doughnut than a sandwich. If you think about it, the PopTart is constituted by its dough (NOT bread, an important part of the sandwich), then a frosting is applied, and finally it is injected with a homogeneous filling. Sandwiches are simply not made like this. The bread is baked first, then sliced, then sliced again (if making 1/2 of sandwich), and then stacked on top of itself with other distinctly separate ingredients in between.
Yes I just called a PopTart a dumpling. Though technically it isn’t a dumpling because dumpling dough is wrapped around its contents, and not injected with it.

A hot dog is not a sandwich, according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.

Also you people need to get out a little more.

touche

Can i get a copy of the genetic lineage of the different food types in a Kingdom-Philum-Class-Order-Family-Genus-Species tree format? I am not sure such a thing can exist unless you identify as either a structure or ingredient standpoint. I feel like if you tried to both, you would either separate foods that are related by ingredient but not structure, or structure but not ingredient.

Sandwich - an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or other filling between them, eaten as a light meal.

Hot Dog - a frankfurter, especially one served hot in a long, soft roll and topped with various condiments.

Figure the rest out by yourself

For me, a sandwich is a foodstuff wherein the filling is the desired component, and the bread is just an edible container for clean and easy utensil free delivery to the mouth. By that, Hot Dogs are a sandwich.

@Robo_Eng_13, your logic has 99.5% reliability.

Touché, Royal_Freedom.

well, if you think about it, spring rolls (i think) are two breads rolled with stuff inside, so therefore springrolls are sandwiches too
