Is it allowed to have a smaller bot ‘deploy’ like in battle bots

I was wondering for high stakes if we could have a second robot just to move around mogo

Nope. No parts can intentionally detatch.

R1 anyone?

I would suggest that you read through the R section of the manual. It makes things very clear.

No. This is a violation of . It is also a violation of . Please read the game manual and Q&A before asking questions like these. Hope this helps!

The links didn’t wrok. So please refer to and of the High Stakes Game Manual: V5RC High Stakes Game Manual - VEX Robotics

Ok so nothing can detach from the robot right?
What if it’s a mini robot (connected to the brain of the main robot) that is still connected to the robot through string/wires?
Would be an interesting strategy.

that would indeed be curious, but would that be covered under the subsystems rules of R1? and also, would that be covered by the notes in R1? " A VEX Robot, for the purposes of the VEX V5 Robotics Competition, has the following subsystems:

  • Subsystem 1: Mobile robotic base including wheels, tracks, legs, or any other mechanism that allows the Robot to navigate the majority of the flat playing field surface. For a stationary Robot, the robotic base without wheels would be considered Subsystem 1.
  • Subsystem 2: Power and control system that includes a legal VEX battery, a legal VEX control system, and associated motors for the mobile robotic base.
  • Subsystem 3: Additional mechanisms (and associated motors) that allow manipulation of Rings, Field Elements, or Climbing the Ladder.

Given the above definitions, a minimum Robot for use in any VEX V5 Robotics Competition event (including Skills Challenges) must consist of subsystems 1 and 2 above. Thus, if you are swapping out an entire subsystem 1 or 2, you have now created a second Robot and have Violated this rule."

and also:

" To help determine if a Robot is a “separate Robot” or not, use the subsystem definitions found in . Above that, use common sense as referenced in . If you can place two Robots on a table next to each other, and they look like two separate legal/complete Robots (i.e., each has the 3 subsystems defined by ), then they are two Robots."

If it is always staying connected to the robot?
Wouldn’t it be considered as a subsystem 3?
Let’s say it’s connected to the brain by wires and connected to the main robot through a C-channel
To me it seems as if it’s just a subsystem

I suppose you might be right. It would be quite the strategy, might have been really good in Spin Up during the endgame.

If it’s still part of the robot then it still needs to follow the same expansion rules, and I doubt that the second robot could do very much if it needs to fit in the same 24x18 box as the main robot.

Also this thread is tagged as IQ, but the OP mentioned high stakes so I’m assuming it’s supposed to be VRC

Let me introduce you to someone.

Summary

This is what 1471A did back during Toss Up, when they created Apophis the Quadropus.

ah, duly noted. Thanks!

Pretty sure what your talking about is a tether bot. or basically 1 robot brain that effectively runs 2 robots. kinds like this:

unfortunately this years expansion rules don’t allow for this type of design. i have always wanted to try my hand at a tether bot but expansion rules have been to strict in recent years.
