So, what is the story behind the product name “VEX”?
I always assumed it meant it was vexing like a puzzle from the word “vex”… but I don’t know an acronym would be interesting…
It is not an acronym. It is a word like “Kleenex” chosen as a name for this brand.
However, we do enjoy hearing all the different “fake” back stories that people have suggested. Some of them are pretty good…
Come on, John, you need a better story than that! I can just imagine the other possibilities IFI considered (from Thesaurus.com):
abrade, afflict, aggravate, agitate, anger, annoy, chafe, depress, displease, disquiet, disturb, embarrass, exasperate, fret, harass, harry, hassle, infuriate, irk, irritate, molest, needle, nettle, offend, peeve, perplex, pester, pique, plague, provoke, rasp, ride, rile, tease, torment, upset, worry
And now someone who is into creative writing should create a back story using every single one of those words…
…And I don’t think I would be far wrong in stating that most Vex Users have felt like most if not ALL of those verbs, at one time or another…
I feel that Vex, is aptly named… ![]()
VEX.
To confound, confuse, addle or astound. I think the list has too many negative words.
It should be more like: Why the heck is it doing that? Or how come this won’t work?
Not giving up is the key. Troubleshoot and try new approaches. When at last you solve the puzzle and it works as required, you gain a great deal of satisfaction from your efforts.
KHall
it should just be called “frustration”
And the Admiration of other Engineers… ![]()
