Issues launching catapult

We are struggling with building our catapult, our robot uses a string to pull the catapult down but we

are having issues with the launching process. This is our first year so we are still trying to understand how to build a successful robot. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help us launch? Thank you!

Are you trying to pull the catapult down, and then have it hold without it popping back up? Try building a ratchet( there is a simple one on swish), and if this doesn’t satisfy you, then try building a choo-choo mechanism(Ben Lipper has a good video for this. If either of these mechanisms cause other issues, then try separating the launching system from your h-drive. (You can do this if you disconnect the straight beam into two separate beams)

Can you please elaborate on what you mean by the launching process. For example, is it launching too high, too low, or just no launching at all? This would really help me in answering your question

From the picture, it doesn’t seem like there is anything to help the catapult function besides the string and motor. It doesn’t seem to be able to hold down for intaking before launching. (they need something to help it stay down when they’re not pulling it with the motor)

Hey there! There is a very simple fix for this… If you look at this years hero bot, they have a really helpful and easy rachet mechanism you can build to lower and shoot the catapult. You can also use Pitching-In’s choo-choo mechanism instructions.

Our catapult launches, but very slowly because it is in the motor. We want to make it launch quickly so it can reach the goal. Thank you!

@2422A is right, try building this year’s robot! If you want to design your own robot, take a look at it’s simple rachet mechanism/
