Jetson Nano - no wifi network

Hey everyone! New VAIRC team here.

When following the vex AI knowledge base article about connecting to the dashboard, I always get stuck at finding the vex AI wifi network (it never appears). I’ve made sure my wifi module is attached to my Jetson Nano, and made sure the SD card is inserted. I’ve tried waiting for 5 to 10 minutes of the cooling fan spinning with the Jetson Nano powered on, but I can never get the network to appear. This problem happens across both Jetson nanos.

Any advice would be great. I tried looking at the files on the SD card yesterday to verify there was an OS on it but the computer wouldn’t recognize that there was a card inserted. I’m going to try again today with my laptop which has its own known good microSD reader.

Try hooking up a monitor to the jetson to make it its booting properly.

I hooked up a monitor to each. One won’t give any video output at all, the other boots to the Ubuntu desktop and stops there.

Wait… I have to manually go run scripts to get the dashboard running? That seems like a pretty big omission from the knowledgebase. It sounded like it was literally “plug it in and connect”, not "get a keyboard, mouse, monitor, install a bunch of dependencies and then configure autorun for a couple scripts.

Maybe I got a bad image on both cards? I’ll try to PM for a new ISO.

Hmm… I tried manually creating a hotspot and simply cannot. Swapped wifi cards between the jetsons and still can’t make a hotspot.

The VEX_AI network is actually in network manager on the jetson, it just isn’t being broadcasted. I can connect to networks on the jetson fine, so my adapter is clearly fine. Maybe I’m going crazy, but any suggestions on how to get this thing to broadcast a wifi network?

I assume you are using the correct Jetson image from here.

Yes, I manually refreshed the image as well just to be sure. Same result, the network is in network manager but is not broadcasting. Creating a hotspot manually also doesn’t broadcast anything. I think the odds of me having two defective wifi modules is pretty low, but I guess it’s not impossible.
