It was a rather revolutionary (and now iconic) electronic typewriter…
More electro-mechanical than electronic, these were the days of transistors rather than microchips, but the selectric worked totally on mechanical linkages, and had an electric motor to power the mechanism and make it easier to type.
You know us old timers have “meta” keys on the keyboard … Caps lock is the one key I don’t get?

Ever since I learned that 88% of people type with the wrong shift key, apparently.
Imagine typing with the shift key and not just hitting caps lock whenever you want to capitalize something (I legitimately did this unironically when I was like 7)
