Legal or Illegal - Top Score in World is this Legit or Not

Many of you have probably already seen the top skills score of 1016. Here is a link to the video Top Skills Score as of 1/22

Is this video showing a legal way of loading the ball. Seems to me they are violating the following:

RSC4. a - “Starting Zone 2 (i.e., the one closest to the Loading Station) is the only Starting Zone that may be used for Rapid Loading.” - Rapid load for Driver Skills must only be from Zone 2. This robot is clearly in Zone 1 and no parts are extended to Zone 2. The ball is not being placed in Zone 2 rather being rolled into Zone 1. First rule break.

SG5.d - “Rapid Load Balls may only be removed from that Starting Zone by a Robot action (e.g., picked up by an intake, pushed by a moving Robot, etc.). Rapid Load Balls cannot be bounced or rolled out of that Starting Zone by a Loader. See Note 2 below.” - The ball is clearly being rolled from Zone 2 to all the way to Zone 1 in this video. Another rule break

SG5. Note 2: “Although it is not required, placing the Ball gently down onto the Field without any additional motion is highly recommended. Unorthodox strategies, such as “tossing” or “rolling” the Ball, will not receive any “benefit of the doubt” if the Head Referee cannot clearly confirm that all criteria have been met (especially clauses “B” and “D”).” - Clearly the ball is being rigorously rolled fed into the robot’s intake.

Could an official with Vex please clarify. I have teams that are trying to nail down their strategies for our Upcoming Regional Qualifier and plan for a bigger event and possibly Worlds.

Thanks

This is legal, but risky. I am not able to see the video linked because youtube is blocked on my computer, but I read your post and I think it is legal because of the Q&A.

I think this is clearly illegal. Ball must be removed by “Robot Action” means that the bot must remove ball from loading zone. if you remove the bot it is clear from the video that the ball will not stay in the loading zone. Ruling 2158 is pretty clear on that. But most people are using rolling within zone 2.

As described in the game manual, the only way to get an official clarification is by posting a question in the official Q&A system on RobotEvents.com. There have been several questions on this topic, so please be sure to read through the existing questions to ensure your question isn’t already addressed by an existing response.

  1. The ball is touching the robot before leaving zone 2 and therefore is legal even if the person is shoving the ball into the robot. Basically, the ball has to make contact with the robot before it leaves zone 2 for it to not count as a violation.
  2. Again, the robot is picking up the ball using the intake/ rollers. Even though it’s clear in the video that the person is rolling the ball and that is helping it, the bot is touching the rollers and therefore is counted as the “robot picking up the ball.”
  3. High risk, medium reward. If the teams want to roll it, it’s allowed.

This Q&A has the definitive answer.

For your 1st doubt:
The ball touches the robot from Zone 1, and then leaves Zone 2. Their robot’s intake extends a little front, which makes it legal to roll the ball, and then score.

Thanks everyone for commenting and sharing your insights/thoughts. As per the new game manual update my question has officially been answered. No longer allowed to roll the ball, it must be placed in a stationary position.
