Metal vs plastic gears

Would the type of gears, metal or plastic, affect the friction?

It would, but i dont think it is enough to matter. Metal gears are only for high strength 12T as i know of. Otherwise all other gears are plastic and the most friction you‘ll get is from axles or tension

From what I understand metal gears are stronger (I.e. the teeth won’t break easily) but produce more friction. On the other hand, plastic gears are weaker (I.e. the teeth will break easier, especially if you treat them wrong) but produce less friction

Yes.

Slight correction, there are also 24 tooth high strength metal gears.
