I was wondering what the minimum age was to compete in IQ because my brother who is in 2nd wants to do it. I heard from local coaches that the minimum was 3rd grade but I don’t know what is right?

Normally I would say to find this in the Manual, but since he is new to VEX, I’ll just give the answer:
Student – Anyone born after May 1, 2009 (i.e., who will be 15 or younger at VEX Worlds 2025). Eligibility may also be granted based on a disability that has delayed education by at least one year. Students are the individuals who design, build, repair, and program the Robot with minimal Adult assistance.
Anyone can be an student as long as they follow this criteria, which your brother likely does.
No other rules state a minimum age, so 2nd grade should be fine.
