Does anyone have any robot ideas with instructions (other than Huey) for mix and match? Beginner friendly please.
You likely aren’t going to get exact instructions to build a very well-built competitive robot, since it is generally against the rules and it ruins the spirit of the competition. I am, however, aware that there is a link to a CAD of a simple robot, Pintex, by The Capped Pins. Just remember, use it as inspiration, and don’t copy the exact robot, just make it better in your own way. Good luck!
If you are completely new I recommend starting with the hero bot and start to alter it heavily such as gear ratios, drive train, etc.
I suggest reading this topic. Take a look at G2, G4, R2, and the Student Centered Policy, if you haven’t already.
Your team should build the hero bot, and then decide how they can make it better. The goal of this whole competition is thought process, not “winning”. The kids will learn a lot more if they attempt to reason through how to construct a better bot than Huey. And then go about doing so. Simply building a more competitive bot from someone else’s instructions will result in a more competitive bot, but the kids won’t have really learned anything, so it becomes a waste of time for them, as I see it. As coaches I feel our job is to maximize learning and de-emphasize “winning”. I realize this can be hard, but it really is all about having the kids improve their problem-solving skills. Essentially nobody in VEX is going to be “competitive robot builder/driver” as a career , but everyone will benefit from being forced to problem-solve.
but what if you get it from a external site does it count?
ANY instructions that you copy is counted as holecounting, regardless of if it is from an external site or not. (Except for the hero bot).
