New claw for rise above

I pictured it as grabbing around two of the standoffs.

I had a similar idea for a while, I had two pairs of angle beams pinned together on a flat board made of beams the board kept the riser steady.

There are a few problems with this claw:

  • The motor on the left weighs about a pound, so your claw will be severely off-center.
  • The long beams forming the “arms” move the center of mass forward, just enough to keep it in empty air but still close to the back. This way, the front of the claw is unstable and the claw will also lean backward.
  • The protrusions, even if they grab on, hold the riser loosely and is vulnerable to accidental dropping of the riser, or a stack of risers, which will take precious time to recover.

Some possible improvements:

  • Make a second pair of protrusions behind the first set with the same alignment, this will help keep the riser steady.
  • This isn’t really an improvement, but you can try clamping outward on the riser standoffs from the inside for more grip.
  • make a copy of the claw and attach it above the first copy, using extended axles to run both sets of claws at the same time with one motor, this way you can grab two risers at once.

This was already suggested. Also, this claw was just suggested as a prototype. It would be changed when put on the robot.

It became a flop. I left the idea but I have the claw with me trying to find time to imporove it.
