Overhauling the aliance choosing process

In the UK, there’s been 4 competitions.
First: 1 picked 4 and won
Second: 1 picked 3 and 15, and lost to 4, 6 and 17 in finals (third seeded alliance)
Third: 1 picked 2 and Won
Fourth: 1 picked 4 and lost in final to 3 and 7
Fifth: 1 picked 2 and Won

1 picking two is rare in the UK this season.

The two times 1 picked 2, 3116A were ranked second. They were picked because of their scoring ability and hang, making them useful for an alliance.

We were the #1 team at the Third competition, and we would have picked 3116A no matter where they ended up, because we did our scouting. It’s very important

Ok, so in my region, mostly it seems to be 1 picking 2, and them going on to win

This, and related topics like throwing matches, comes up regularly.

My personal feeling is that we are not all on the same page as to the purpose of Alliance Selection. Without knowing it’s intended purpose we can’t begin to evaluate how good a job the current system is doing. The 2nd pick on the winning alliance is not as good as the captains of other alliances, so simply identifying the best teams at a tournament is not the sole purpose of alliance selection
