Pics for engineering notebooks

I am a middle school robotics coach. Does anyone have their teams taking pictures of their daily building? Here’s my issue…Instead of having to draw their progress each day with their robot build, I would like them to be able to take a picture of their bot before they build for the day and then after they build for the day. Is this something that is ok to do? Does anyone use a specific type of camera? I’m still kind of new to the coaching thing, so not sure what is acceptable for the engineering notebooks and what isn’t. Thanks for any help or info or suggestions you can give!

Yes, many teams take pictures of there daily build progress. It typically depends on the team, some teams take pictures all the time some take them every now and again and some teams don’t have any real photos of there robot in there notebook.

A specific camera doesn’t really matter just make sure the robot/mechanism can be seen clearly. Personally, I try to take the photos on a clean background so they look better in the notebook.

Our coach wants us to take daily pictures of our robot. I suggest it, so teams can document their progress. We don’t use a specific type of camera. Any camera would do.

Hi everyone!

I am a member of a school robotics team and we aren’t allowed to use our phones within the school building at all, unless we get special permission after school. We do most of our building before school, so we can’t really take pics while building. Will this hurt our chances of winning judged awards?

No you’re totally fine, I would just make sure to take some pictures when you can, and put some drawings and images of your cad design if you have one.

Pictures are not a mandatory they just help you show the progress your team’s made and to explain mechanisms. You should have the same chance to get judged awards with or without.
