So I had a specific question regarding this line in the qualifying criteria regarding worlds qualification from signature events.
If the team that wins a spot at a Signature Event is already qualified, or wins multiple spots at the Signature Event, those spots will be filled by the team(s) with the highest Robot Skills score at that Signature Event at the end of the event.
Would that mean that any team that has a worlds spot is unable to take any worlds spots from another sig event? Example:
Team 123A and team 456B are already qualified for worlds. Team 789C is not. Team 123A is top in skills, then 456B then 789C. 123A wins excellence. Would the spot then skip past 456B and go to 789C or would it disappear?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I feel it is very important, and I want to make sure I understand the rule properly.
From my experience, I think that the spot would go to 789C. This scenario happened at states where some teams double and triple qualified for worlds and something like the top 6 skills teams got in because of the double qualifications. Hopefully this helps!
As worded, I believe 456B would be awarded a World’s spot (that they wouldn’t need because they already qualified) from 123A’s Double Qual at the event. So 789C would not be awarded a spot, and that entry would “disappear”
I don’t think qualifications can “disappear.” If its the same functionally as worlds qualifications from states, a fixed number of new entries are guaranteed to the event. So, I believe it would go down the skills list until that qualifications was awarded to a team that did not already have one. I could certainly be mistaken though, this is just my understanding of the system.
i.e. in a given state, 10 spots are allotted. If two of the 10 teams that earn the qualifications are already qualified, they would continue down the skills list until two unqualified teams were found.
Then again, if it’s different from states none of this applies
If the team that wins a spot at a Signature Event is already qualified, or wins multiple spots at the Signature Event, those spots will be filled by the team(s) with the highest Robot Skills score at that Signature Event at the end of the event.
This would be a great thing to represent with a flowchart, but I’m not on my computer. The keyword in the qualifying criteria is “a spot”. The qualifying criteria does not specify whether this spot is awarded through winning a qualifying award or from the skills standings. This means that 123A wins a spot, but is already qualified, thus beginning iteration 1 of the spot reallocation which will give it to 456B. However, since 456B has now been awarded a spot and also meets the criteria of being qualified for Worlds, there is a second iteration of the protocol that will now reallocate the spot again which ultimately leads 789C to receive the spot. Simply put, the clause quoted above can be repeated as many times as necessary because it is activated whenever a qualified team wins a spot.
At river bots, the 3 worlds quals went to already qualified teams (515R and 9364C). 2775V, 323V, and 4082B didn’t take these spots even though they were already worlds qualed previously. 2011C, 6210X, and248D qualified for worlds at this tournament as seen by 2011C being listed as worlds registered.
So, in the original scenario,789C would worlds qual.
