Ratchet Mechanism Friction

Hello everyone,

Lately, I’ve been trying to make a catapult for this season’s game, Level Up. Recently, I’ve made the topic “My catapult is weak”, and I realized the solution to that problem was that the gears in the ratchet Mechanism was making friction. Basically, when the part that is connected to the motor releases, the gears of the part with the rope creates friction. Is lubrication allowed in competitions? If not, are there any solutions to this other than lubricating? Thank you!

Here is a picture for reference

Take this with a grain of salt.

Thank you for the reply! Now that I know that it’s allowed, do you know what type of lubricant is best? Thank you!

You’re welcome! Sorry, I’ve never used lubricant, but based on my research

So, don’t trust AI, are any of those food safe ?

Yes, but only ones specifically labeled as food-safe

Thank you for the reply! But as jpearman said, most of those are not food-safe, but I heard that Super Lube is food-safe, so I might consider using those. Thank you for your effort!

Thank you for the reply! Is there a specific criteria for me to find out if something is “food safe”? Or it it labeled if it’s food safe or not in the lubricant? I haven’t used lubricant before, so please excuse my lack of information. Thank you!

Just type “food safe grease” into Amazon search, plenty of choices.

Dude I think you made the ratchet wrong( don’t look at the arrow look at the other gear) This might be off topic tho

Thank you for the reply! I’ll check them out, and thank you for the information!

Hello, I don’t think it’s wrong because I don’t have the ratchet gear, so I have to utilize other parts to make it work. Also, it seems to not have any issues (I think).
