Application Deadline: Deadline Extended to August 15, 2022
High school student members of the VEX Robotics Community are eligible to apply for membership on the REC Foundation Student Advisory Board (SAB). The SAB provides input to the REC Foundation STEM programs that help prepare the next generation of innovators, engineers and leaders. Members serve as liaisons between their peers in our programs and the REC Foundation. Student and REC Foundation staff members of the SAB serve as a focus group that shares ideas, suggestions and concerns, from a student’s perspective, at the program level.
SAB members are expected to support the REC Foundation Code of Conduct Policy, both in participation on the SAB and in everyday actions regarding teams and events. They commit to participating in recurring meetings either by phone or online every 4-6 weeks throughout the year.
Please follow the link below to apply. Feel free to share this message with other eligible high school students who might be interested.
Will there be a separate application for college students for a SAB on VEXU related topics? Or are there just no plans to allow for VEXU/VAIC-U representation on the SAB?
Yes, there are plans for a similar-type group for VEX U / VEX AI. We will communicate the timeline and process of application as we get closer to starting the group.

Regarding the VEX U Advisory Board: Thanks for all the questions - it’s great to know there is so much interest! We expect to be opening the application process within the next few weeks.
I’ll tag onto this request for Students post to get a reply post on “Hey, what did you do, how did it go, what things did you make happen, what advice did you give?” Mostly I expect an @DanMantz response, but in the past some of the SAB roboteers have posted.
I think the SAB is a great thing, I do know from prior posts that they have really pushed the student agenda.
Thank you for the suggestion to share the experiences of the Student Advisory Board this season. Every year the SAB has it’s own personality and this years was very grounded and polite. That does not mean that the students did not provide valuable feedback and insight; as with every previous year the students had no issue with challenging me and arguing their opinions. I truly enjoy my experience with the SAB and am grateful to all the students that pushed for a voice back in 2018 that led to me creating this group.
Some of my favorite topics discussed where they provided feedback that will be reflected in future seasons included how to connect alumni with our sponsors, ways to make the experience at VEX Worlds more fun for students, current and future games, criteria for awards, and even 3D printed parts ;).
As @DRow noted, SAB members are asked not to share what we discuss at our meetings. And I’m proud that over the past 5 years, there has never been a leak from the SAB.
I will ask them to provide a summary of their experiences and will share it on another thread.
