I’m founding a new team for this season, and my team is currently working on picking a team number. Anybody know the process for using a team number last used years ago/when numbers become available to use again at all?
New letters can be made for an org owning the number.
Old orgs can reuse their letters as needed.
However if there is a number you do not own, usually the number (which is needed to get an associated letter) is owned “indefinitely” to my knowledge. So it might be possible if org really isn’t using their to see if your support manager can facilitate you to borrow that number or something. I have seen teams using a base number with different letters in totally different places before so I believe it is possible.
Yeah I’m looking at team numbers that were used like 10-15 years ago for one season and I wanted to know if I can pick that or if I’m stuck with what’s available on vex events
Team numbers are assigned to organisations/schools at a permanent basis.
It allows teams to build up their brand name, and it is good for publicity (for the teams).
Like what @Team30809S mentioned, do look for your RSM to resolve this. They will be in a good position to decide if it is “safe” to recycle the number or maybe just in case, that particular school might decides to restart their VEX programme.

You can contact the org to see if they’d be interested to transfer it. Iirc that’s a valid option although you should contact your RSM to make sure.
Also, you can find RSM info on the GRSF website
