I am curious to learn from those of you who may have these drones, what your thoughts are on the quality of the drone itself and any curriculum you may use. Thank you!
4588C here, the drones that we got are already having problems with them, specifically with one of the motors on our drone specifically, also the coding program isn’t finished yet and the coding itself won’t listen to itself. Also the prop wash alone is enough to drift the drone without even messing with the drone.

We received our drones in November, and since then we have encountered several issues similar to those outlined in 4588C. In addition, we are experiencing problems during flight, including random shutdowns and frequent disconnections from the controller—even when the drone is less than five feet away.
We are hopeful that future software or firmware updates will address these challenges and improve overall performance and reliability. Despite these initial hurdles, we are excited about the opportunities this program will bring and are looking forward to starting this new adventure with our students.

I feel like from what I have seen, the VEX AIR competition won’t be popular among teams as soon as y’all might think this V5RC and VIQRC are still popular. Air is definitely cheaper than V5 but I don’t think the VEX corporation is even properly focusing on the drones themselves as many people have been saying that they have been having issues with the programming if the drone and stuff. I feel like more interest in the competition itself will probably solve most of these problems like the code not working and stuff. But once again, I’m a V5 kid so don’t take my word for 100% value.

I can’t comment on the quality of the drone itself, as I have not tried it yet.
But I am hoping that in the near future, we can have something of a robots + drones competition. One notable example will be the DJI RoboMaster University Championship (not the university league) - it involves both robots and drone as well.
And looking ahead to the quite near future, it will be about physical AI - which both robots and drones are part of it.

Yeah, I agree, robotics drone stuff seems like a good thing to implement into robotics as a whole
