My team and I have decided that our robot does not meet our needs. We are taking it apart. Does anyone have any suggestions on what we should do?
What is your time frame? Complex builds this far in the early season is really hard to pull of correctly.
Were trying to complete our build by mid december.
I am in a similar situation, however, I won’t be taking the robot entirely apart. If you could share some of your required abilities of your new robot (fast at cone stacking, tall stack height, light and quick, internal stacker, good with mobile goals etc.) then it will make it easier for people to suggest ideas.
Mobillity, Internal Stacker, and really we just want it to stack high (I did say that we are taking the entire thing apart, but we are only taking apart the base. This is also our first year so yeah)
Nice, this is also my first year (along with everyone on my team except 1). Anyways, I’d say look at possible lift types. A DR4B is very popular this year, even though many people don’t recommend it for first year teams. That’s why I recommend maybe taking a look at this instead:
This can stack a good amount of cones (I think 8). It is also an internal stacker with a solid mobile goal design. There are lots of teams using a chain bar this year. In your case, I think that is the way to go. Because you want an internal stacker, using a DR4B will require something to do translational motion, such as a chain bar or 4 bar etc. on top. This makes it more complicated. That’s why I say do something similar to OSIZR. Also take a look at team 1045 A reveal:
This is another example of a great chain bar lift. Also, here is another that has won tournament champion at EVERY tournament they have attended:
This is why I think chain bars are the way to go for new teams. With so many videos on chain bars (yes I know there are lots of DR4B vids too), it shouldn’t be too hard to build a working chain bar by December.
Thanks this will help us out.
No problem! Btw I’m building a chain bar too. Good luck with yours!
Nice! Good luck.
Here is the original internal stacker…
Granted that it was built in way early season (June)… but think the robots will still be doing pretty well in most competitions currently.
But I suspect they will be phased out by January.
What my team does is I actually serve as a head of “Experimental Design”. This
basically means that while my team is driving and programming our early season design, I’m developing a “super bot” that’s supposed to kick butt at state. It would work quite well, if my team didn’t keep stealing my experimental bot’s drivebase and using it and/or forcing me to work on the qualifier bot.
I would build a chain bar as a fail safe and then go for a DR4B design.
LOL same that’s what I have to do, but I keep having to help with the other robot… oh well, at least I get to make sure we do qualify for states ![]()
