Rpm and gear ratios? Confusion?

What is a good balance for a drive base and where to put the motors?

Drive speeds are subjective, so it’s just your personal preference which one you like best. Catalogue of Drive Gearings
I recommend you read this post, as it covers a lot of common drive speeds people tend to use. As for the motors, you would usually put them on the gears between the wheels, as it gives you more flexibility with the gear ratios.

you could do a 36 to 48 gear drivetrain to achieve a 450 RPM drivetrain which is fast and gives you control over your movements. You could put your motors side by side to even out the weight, or if your robot has more weight in a certain position you could opt to do 2 stacked motors and the other motor next to the stacked.

The image above is for the 6 motor even drive with 3:4 gear ratio

The sketch above is for stacked motors. The top motor could be used to PTO to endgame if you want. (Although 4 piston should be enough for most cases.)

Also, do not question my drawing abilites.

Yeah, our team also uses 450 rpm with 36/48 gear ratio on blue motors. This gear ratio is pretty good as it is a good balance between torque and speed. On our last bot, we had a direct 600 rpm drive although i wouldn’t recommend using it, as when we were pushing other bots they had more pushing power. So to answer @TibTy question, i would recommend a 36/48 gear ratio with 6 motors.

My Team uses a 36 tooth 12 tooth ratio that looks like this

Thank you very much, I know it is basically the end of the season, but it is still very useful.
