I think this could be mitigated by establishing a rate limit, where it can only be called upon say, 5 times an hour with a rolling window.
Yea, I was waiting for that to happen. As someone that supports sites that has a ton of data, I hate the full data scrapers. Especially the ones that come a few times a day. I watch them, I’ll rate limit them to see if they cool it, then I IP block. The customer is paying for CPU and network charges. You might want to contact DRow about this.
Uh, the previous times I’ve asked DRow it’s either been “go for it” (exact quote) or no response at all.
I will say, that last script I ran was going to the pages of the top 1000 users in quick succession. The other data I had downloaded once than just ran algorithms on, and my now-broken forum alerts bot simply requested the RSS feed every minute or so.
And if I was to make a bot, it would use Selenium to be able to both see what’s going on, and post/reply. It’s network traffic wouldn’t significantly differ from that of an active user.
Even though this sounds cool and super helpful, I don’t think this should be able to be used in every thread. I can see this as a way for spammers to create a lot of junk very quickly. Maybe if you coded it to give the statistics only when PM’d by a user, we could eliminate the threat of spam from this bot.
im number 169, perfect number tbh
its called throwaway advertising accounts that usually get banned minutes after the first post

I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist
I am just now noticing that if you append .json to pretty much any URL here you get everything in a parse-able format. This is nice.
You put the .json in the wrong place.
According to an old Chinese saying:
Bad luck will follow those who do not use neural network with a non-linear activation function.
那些不使用带有非线性激活函数的神经网络的人会遇到厄运。
Just what my favorite tattoo says!
