Seeking for v5 engineering notebook advice

I’m my team’s notebooker, and I’m wondering about how my notebook should be organized and categorized. Originally, I was thinking on dividing my notebook by each mechanism of my team’s robot, but I was thinking that this could have and issue with things not being in chronological(time) order, and some pages that are not really about the mechanisms(things like meeting logs) would not a spot to fit in. How do you guys organize your notebooks and what format do you guys use? Can anyone give advices about writing an award winning notebook?

Take a look at notebooking.vex.com

Lots of good starting points there.

Teams on the forum will pipe up with exemplars from past seasons and their best practices.

The notebook rubric has been recently updated to allow sections.

1.2 Updated “Pagination and Chronology” criteria to account for organization by sections, not only chronological order.

My team uses sections and each section focuses on different things. It was inspired by 21417A’s notebook. We have 4 sections: Notebook introduction, engineering, programming, and weekly logbook. The notebook introduction mainly is team introduction, formatting, and other general stuff that doesn’t fit into the actual vex side of stuff. The engineering book is for almost everything: identifying, research, CAD, building, testing, all that type of stuff. The programming notebook is solely on programming. This is mainly because everything but the programming book is done by the notebooker, and this allows the programming book to be worked on by the programmer at their own pace. The weekly logbook is just to keep track of what we did each week. If you plan to go the route of sections, and also just notebooking in general, be sure to have page callbacks. For example, if you’re talking about how you built your odom pod in one section, be sure to have an organized way of calling back to that info when you’re talking about how you’ll program it and show your evidence. We make sure that the contents of each section are in chronological order, even if the sections aren’t.
