I am currently building my drivetrain and I was wondering whether I should use 6(4 omni 2 traction) or 4(all omni ) wheels for my drive train. When I asked people from my club they said to do whatever the driver prefers but we are a very young team so we don’t really have a preference.

With all omni wheels, your robot is extremely agile and unlocks a drifting ability (quite fun to do).
With traction wheels, it isn’t quite as agile, but pushing it is quite difficult.
So does your driver/strategy prioritize agility or non-push-ability?
(Side note: if your drivetrain is geared for speed (like really fast), definitely go all omni. If your drivetrain is geared for torque (kinda slow), definitely have at least 2 traction wheels.)
You should maybe try a bling drive. It stops other bots from pushing your’s around so easily and it helps with rotation.

It is important to note that some teams may find their autonomous to be more repeatable if they use traction wheels due to less slip and is more isolated to one local axis of transformation applied to world space, as compared to two.
If you use dead odometry wheels does it solve this problem?
So assuming you have a PID as a self-correcting feature, then yes an odometry+pid combination should help migitate drift.
