Simplified VRC CAD library STEP file 4.3MB zipped - yet to add new HS gears and pneumatics

Looking at the size of the latest CAD library release on the forum, I wondered if anyone would like a copy of my simplified CAD collection in a single file. Here’s a work-in-progress, simplified, visually uncluttered and much lighter CAD library for VRC. 4.3MB zipped STEP file

This version is still missing the most recent parts, and you’ll see that a couple haven’t been fully simplified yet.
I’ll add the latest parts when I get to it and repost - they’re scattered across my other files in various stages of completion.

My aim in this is to be as small as possible in terms of data, and as visually uncluttered as possible so I can switch on a hidden-edges view to examine how things line up and not be met with a juddering mess of lines.

So, the parts look different because they have round holes and sharp corners, but I find they work really well for prototyping.

I won’t be supporting this library as such - you go ahead and do whatever you like with it. If an individual or group would like to turn this into something that gets released over time, do just take it whole or in part.

If you don’t like the simplified look, preferring the official CAD, but also want easy hole centres without needing to carry sketches around with every part, here’s a suggestion: an ellipse on the centre of the square can match one of the corner fillets quite well and gives a point to align to for bolts and shafts when you hover on the main surface, or on the elliptical fillet you’ve created.

Here’s the fusion file I built that example with.
hole modification.f3d (2.3 MB)

It’s amusing to note that it’s more than half the size of the whole simplified library. I haven’t built anything serious with this method as I’m happy with circular holes, but maybe this will be useful.

So, over to you!

What program is this for

Hi, the simplified CAD library file is in the standard STEP format that will work in any modern CAD package.
The second file at the end that just shows a hole modification not related to the library is specifically for Fusion 360 because it contains a sketch.

Here’s a v5 brain, screen protector, power connector for judging clearance and the two flange types simplified as far as I can without losing significant original volume occupation. The main library file has an angular version that takes less data and has fewer lines to clutter the transparent view. I did this new one because the CAD currently on the website looks different to my brain and I wasn’t sure it mattered. I think it probably doesn’t, but hey, here’s a differently accurate one, and the data is a bit smaller. One thing I notice is that Fusion seems to throw away names of bodies when exporting STEP files - I’ll see if I can persuade it to maintain naming because that’s going to be inconvenient in the main library.

Please let me know whatever you find wrong with it - this is supposed to be realistic. Missing chamfers (e.g. around the power button hole) and fillets on edges don’t count. They increase file size and make negligible difference to what you can fit round it.

Here’s my current draft simplification of the High Stakes field.
