Singapore National VRC Championship (SingNat) 2023

Hi all,

Taking a break from preparing a presentation to my school leaders regarding ChatGPT and decided to do up a post regarding Singapore National VRC Championship (Singaporeans are just bad with names… this mouthful event is the most creative name we can think of).
Anyway, just call it SingNat for short.

And as @Foster has rightly stated in his post - Seasons Of VEX , the teams in Singapore are all up and excited over the upcoming SingNat.

Teams are slowly waking up from our long slumber (that lasted since 2018). And it feels like we are having a mini-revival for VRC.

We have 27 HS teams and 11 MS teams registered.
(btw, any idea is this number comparable to Cali Region 1? Coz REC has reduced our spot to only 1 HS + 0 MS… we are scratching our heads on whats the formula behind this allocation)

Anyway, things are certainly looking up:

  1. A working committee (made up of rep from different schools) are formed and we will be helping and supporting each other in organsing of events, etc.
  2. We are expecting a few new schools/teams to come onboard next season - this should help us to cross the 30-team mark for HS.
  3. Tentative event calendar for the new season will be something like

June - SingVEX
September - Mega scrimmage
Nov / Dec - Signature Event @ SG
Jan / Feb - SingNat
Apr - Worlds

We are trying to have some events in every quarter.

Back to SingNat 2023…

Date: 11 Feb 2023
Venue: Team 35768 will be hosting it at their premises
Event agenda was generated by ChatGPT (it works!)
We are fortunate to get some of the ex-worlds division champions to be back to volunteer as referees.

We are targetting a crowd of about 400+ (about 200 participants and another 200 supporters).
And yes - team 8059 will be helping with the livestreaming of the event.

We will drop the link over there when it is closer to the event. So do check back here again!!

We’re super excited to host our first ever VEX event!

1 HS + 0 MS worlds spot allocation is unfortunate for all teams but I think there’s still a possibility for 4 Worlds Spot since RECF did indicate that a 32+ teams championship event might get 4 World Spots. Of course, this will depend if RECF allows so.

Anyways, excited to see all teams competing :))

Hi all…

As mentioned earlier - for the first time in VRC history, SingNat will be livestream !!

At last count, it will be a 36-team mixed event.

And once again, we are grateful to team 35768 (from Stamford American International School) for hosting us in their beautiful campus.

Here’s a sneak preview of the setup (and still setting up).

And here’s the official link to the livestream - Singapore VEX Robotics Competition National Championship - YouTube

The livestreaming will be managed by 8059 and hosted on 35769 youtube channel.

Enjoy!!

Are there any plans on having a Vex U division at the Sig? AUS Nationals is early December but we’d be keen on flying down to come if it doesn’t clash with that, we should also be able to lend some of our team as volunteers between games, lot’s of experience across them all.

I’ll pass on info about the event to MS+HS team here in AUS and see if there’s any interest!

Currently no.
I have been trying to get a VEX U team up in Singapore for the past few years. But it is really difficult to make it happen.

In Singapore, all the guys in Singapore will need to serve 2-years of national service upon completion of HS. So there is always a gap by the time they start they university after national service.

But please do help us pass the message around! Will be great to see some teams from Aust and NZ.

AUS nationals this season is running over the 2-4th of December, I know a lot of teams would be interested in coming provided it doesn’t clash with that so we’re definitely going to advertise it to schools over here as an event to look out for, we would be interested in a VEX U division if one does get off the ground, if there’s any interest from other regions with VEX U or if you know any other teams who might fly out please let us know as we will 100% get in touch with them and try organise whether we can get that running as well!

Thanks

Sorry…. Are you trying to explain to me how national service in Singapore works?

I am a true blue Singaporean that served my national service and I have even completed all my 13 cycles of reservist.
So I do believe I have complete understanding of the system.

And this year being my 24th year being involved in school robotics, I do know the constraints and issues as well.

So back to this question I have for you - what’s the purpose of your post?
And you were responding to my post that was made in the previous season, 8-month ago as well.
I am trying to see any value in reviving this long dead post that has its discussion already reached its end point.

PS… with the current political climate, you might want to consider changing your username.
