Single Odometry Tracking wheel and IMU

Just checking before we go ahead and build, there isnt a need for a sideways tracking wheel if we just use a standard drive? We want to have a setup with a single odometry pod in the center that tracks forward backward movement and then we also use an inertial sensor. Will this be fine for pre match auton and skills auton?

Depends on what you mean by standard drive. Probably tank drive, but tank drives with only omni wheels drift from side to side which can mess up your odometry.
