Slip Gear and Catapult

Is there any way someone can explain the slip gear and catapult system to me. I have never worked with this mechanism before and I’m really confused.

Slip Gear Catapult For Spin Up

Hello vex community, I am very new to the robotics world and was wondering if I can get any help building a slip gear catapult. Does anybody know where to go for a step by step tutorial or have one themselves they can share? Thank you vex community

The slip gear for shooters have some teeth grinded off of it, allowing it to come back whenever the rubber bands are incorporated. Something to note is to make sure the gear WITH teeth missing is connected to the shaft that is connected to the motor, or the shooter won’t work correctly. You also want to make sure that you have enough teeth off for the shooter component to reach the designated area before the teeth come to contact with the reset shooter, and have enough teeth for lots of power.
