SpaceX Starship test launch

The net is buzzing with rumors that SpaceX is trying do a test launch of the Starship.

There is no official announcement at this time, but it looks like they could do it within hours as various fuel venting events have occurred in the last half an hour.

There is a live amateur feed with lots of commentary (the best feed available until SpaceX goes live):

They’re planning on launching in about 3 minutes, so hurry up if you want to watch it!

E(~4:30): they launched the stream, and it says T- 4 minutes

The launch is scrubbed, SN8 didn’t like something.
We might get another attempt tomorrow.

scrub a dub dub.

They are planning another attempt at a testflight today. Not sure what time yet but NASASpaceflight is already live with coverage of all todays scheduled events. Starship SN8 12.5km Successful Test Flight - Full Livestream - YouTube

They still have 2 hours in the launch window, we might still have a launch today!

Today’s launch rescheduled for 4:40 PM CST, make sure you tune in!

For those, who don’t know many details about Starship design, I would like to mention that what SpaceX is testing today is just a scaled down version of the upper stage for the the fully reusable two-stage-to-orbit SpaceX Starship system.

According to the current plans, it will consist of upper stage Starship and lower stage Super Heavy, and would be the tallest rocket ever built:

Wow, just wow !..
that was so close…

It looked so cool until the very end…

f

super cool test tho

Well that was a roller coaster.

I can confirm the pointy end is still facing up, but the flamey end is kind of everywhere.

Overall, so many things went right with this launch.
-The rocket lifted off
-It rolled over successfully
-the “Skydiver” flight profile was incredibly stable.
-2 engines successfully relit
-the “flip over” worked and the rocket was pointing in the correct direction
-the rocket was coming down right over the pad

The mission was a success. Elon said there was only a 30% chance of the rocket surviving, but they got the data they needed.

We may see SN9 land in one piece,

I’d argue that the end was one of the coolest parts of the flight.
Rapid Unscheduled Dissassemblies aren’t exactly the most boring thing I’ve ever seen

Just watch Elon Musk show up to this forum.

Anyone wanna invite him?

How? Do we use twitter? He’s pretty prominent there.

We’ve likely got another flight test of the sky-diving grain silos today,
Hopefully SN9 sticks the landing!

It’s Triventing, we’re really close!
