I just finished the color painting of our metal (2 days ago) and was wondering if a clear coat is necessary, I would like to do one but on some of my test pieces it either wrinkles or makes it look weird im using rust oleum inmixed primer and clear enamel paint
No, a clear coat is not necessary for spray painting or color painting. Our robot does well without one so I am assuming there is no need for a clear coat👍
It offers extra protection, but it comes at the cost of well… extra cost.
Also surprisingly, weight. Assuming 2 cans per robot, you can actually add a significant fraction of a pound to a robot just due to spray painting.
