Star Drive Motor Screws

Hi everyone,
I was looking on both robotmesh.com and vexrobotics.com and couldn’t find any star drive motor screws. Could someone please post a link to these screws. We have the T8 screwdrivers but couldn’t find the screws themselves.

Thanks guys

The star drive motor screws are in stock for all sizes. However, you have to scroll down a bit to actually find them under the “screws” page. I have attached a link below to show the correct page with the screws for purchase on it:

Hope this helps! Enjoy!

I looked at the link. Are the 8-32 star drive screws meant for motors?
I see the regular screws but not the other types.

No, I do not not believe there is a motor screw version of the star drive screws. I am not sure why there are two types of star screw drivers (t8 and t15), but I do know that VEX only sells 8-32 star-head screws (for now). Motor versions are definitely something to look into and could be very useful, but I feel that it would be a bit tricky to make a star shape fit into a screw head that small due to the smaller size of the motor screws.

I too would be interested in non-stripping motor screws, and I know my team would as well. Trust me, we have had some bad experiences in the past with stripped motor screws:/.

Sorry:(

You can buy 6-32 Torx screws from any industrial supplier, like Bolt Depot, McMaster, or MSC.

T8 torx drive is for the couplers you use to connect standoffs together.

As another alternate for motor screws you can get socket head screws with hex drive from hardware suppliers which dont strip as easily.

Thank you for clarifying!

Do these screws fit into motors? I mean would they be too thick or are there multiple thicknesses of the T8 screw or are all T8 screws the same thickness?

Thanks for all the prompt responses everyone.

The thread of “normal” vex screws is 8-32 thread (button head screws are T-15 drive)
The thread of motor mounting screws is 6-32 (button head screws are T-10 drive)
The motor housing screws are about an M2 (the OEM is really a self-tapping screw)
the “standoff connectors” are actually long set screws with a T-8 drive.

The driver size (T-8, t-10, T-15) is not the same as the thread size. You buy screws by the thread size, length, and head type. (such as 8-32 x 1" Torx BHCS)

I would still prefer cap head 6-32 allen hex (with a washer) over the torx button head for cost reasons and ease of driving them in the motor.

Maybe get the best of both worlds? 9 cents each for cap head version at MSC (It takes a T15 so it’s the same as 8-32 button head screws!)
