Just letting you know that event is not on robot events, so there is little data on match and skills scores. There was however, an exchange competition in Guangzhou, that is on robot events, but robot skills was not done at that tournament. A partial recording from the finals matches can be found here (taken from ARL’s Facebook page). There are also some more matches from the WRC competition; I’ll see if I can upload some more in the future.
I noticed that the Chinese team who was placing the rings on the tall goal wasn’t doing it until the last 10 seconds of the match and they did it right next to their platform. I think that it is safe to do it their as an opposing alliance won’t risk getting an SG3 violation. As you pointed out in your thread:
I think externally stacking on the tall gaol at the end of the match is a safe and viable strategy.
really depends on your opponent. Personally, I wouldn’t hesitate to push over that tall goal, even if it was near the platform, simply because if I didn’t take that risk, I’d likely lose the match anyways.
the match dynamic in china is just different than it is here, robots usually avoid each other and there is little to no defense at all. I don’t think an external tall goal strategy is viable in an environment where defense is common.
