Update: 2020 VEX Robotics Virtual World Championship Celebration

This may be a stupid question, but I haven’t found the answer to it anywhere, so please forgive if this is redundant:

  1. Is there a specific time of day to tune in? Since this is a livestream, a specific time is probably important.

  2. Is there yet a link to the livestream anywhere, or a specified place where the link will be?

Here’s an interesting thought; will there be any RI3D this year?

for next seasons game? there usually is with teams

How will anyone meet though?

they can still facetime and stuff like that. im not really sure but I would assume teams are going to do the RI3D

I’m going to try, I took home a bunch of parts before this whole thing started. But yeah, I expect for there to be a few. Maybe later than normal, but there will likely be a few.

No details have been announced yet about the timing if the event or the livestream link, but I’m sure this thread will be a main source of information in the coming weeks.

Just wondering, when can we expect an agenda to be posted for Virtual Worlds? I’m trying to setup a virtual watch party with my teams, but still can’t tell them when to set aside time for it on the 25th and it’s only 10 days away.

What does it mean by simulated event? so do we drive our robot ? How does this work?

I believe you just watch. to the best of my knowledge, it isn’t interactive.

Are they giving out the world championship trophies? Because that is what they show in robotevents.com

From the VEX Virtual Worlds Landing Page:

Using past match results of all 2020 VEX Worlds Qualified teams, the VEX IQ Challenge Squared Away and VEX Robotics Competition Tower Takeover World Championships are getting simulated. This tournament is just for FUN and no action is needed on any teams’ part except to follow along with our updates and watch the event from home on April 25 to celebrate the season!

Emphasis added by me.

They literally can’t give out any trophies, since there is no physical event.

It remains to be seen whether any World Championship trophies will ever be awarded for Tower Takeover, but I certainly would not expect them to award trophies based on a mere simulation.

Can’t they just mail them? i mean it wouldn’t be as cool but they might have already made the awards and still give them out.

Well it wouldn’t come off the same, considering its all simulated and nobody actually won.

Yeah, they probably could just mail them out. But who would they send them to? How do you decide who won the awards if the event isn’t even taking place?

Especially since teams cannot send in their notebooks for judging

Technically this is the first ever robotics world championship hosted, reffed, and driven by robots.

That means the teams that qualified for the championship will be able to say that they completed in the first (and maybe only)

That will be fun to say! Robot Takeover!

FTFY

And everybody will be a winner, just like in kindergarten, lol
