Have you read the updates? What are your thoughts on the use of summaries to help in the interviewing and some of the other ideas to help judging and clarifications provided. Note the JA certification is still going to be a bit. I have asked, hence, I can say it will still be a couple of weeks.
I was told about the updates and from what I’ve heard the changes sound great. One question though, where can I read the new documentation?

In the judges tab…also check code of conduct and related. There has been some improved clarifications. The use of summaries will be interesting. It also covers what makes something yours versus copying.
I’m still going through everything, but as of right now, I feel like this season is going to bring a lot of positive changes for teams.
I definitely think we’ll be seeing better documentation and hopefully fairer judging thanks to the summaries since they might be easier to face for both teams and judges. Imo a lot of beginner teams struggle with knowing where exactly to start, especially when most of them have never heard of EDP and whanot. Having summaries that I’m assuming can be viewed somewhat like academic reports will hopefully make the whole process feel a lot more approachable and manageable for newer teams.
Overall, great job grsf! really looking forward to this season and seeing how everything plays out :')
The one thing I want to see more than anything is the notebook review locked down more. Since some areas are doing remote reviews and the times are not being controlled for length of time used for review…it puts a disadvantage to teams that have good notebooks, but are not long winded in their notebooks. As aa chemist, who has done most everything, we only see elaborate documentation for patent events. So as a judge and JA, I want to see something in front of me that is good, thorough and tells me this team has done a great job without trying to write a patent. I know somethings are usable for college applications, but this is also a competition where time constraints must be applied consistantly and fairly. Do I like the elaborate notebooks, as a STEM professional, yes. If I am holding all teams to one review time…it can hurt that team. As judges must find the information to score the notebook. The summaries cannot be scored.
So the information must still be found in the notebook. Can it lead to better interviews, hopefully. I was proud of my judges interviews last year. They did a great job in sorting teams out using the interviews. I also realized going to other events, that the interviews, in my opinion, were undervalued. Since AI and coding sources are used, the interview can really sort teams out. Word to the wise. Understanding is key.
