V5 Radio and Controller Disconnection

Hi

My team was having issues with our radio at the last competition. Randomly, during matches, the radio would disconnect, the green flashing would turn solid red, and we could not move at all. There seemed to possibly be a pattern regarding distance from the radio, but it would also disconnect close by, so I don’t know. The radio is currently, at the highest point on our robot on the outside, so nothing physical is interrupting the connection. All these parts are >3 years old too. We have a competition next Saturday, and our robot functions really well besides this. Any ideas on whats wrong, or how to fix it?

You mentioned that the radios are older than 3 years old. I think that might be the problem. I think a new radio may be necessary. My school’s old team (that has students that have now graduated) had to replace their radio after like 4 years. So, I think it might be time.

Radios do not “wear out”, unless the connector has been damaged in some way.

Yeah, that was my team’s problem.

I have IQ controllers, radios and brains that are now older than the roboteers using them. They don’t wear out. But if you are replacing radios since they are “worn out” I’ll take them.

@Mburns - I’d make an effort to put the controller on charge and see if that helps. My experience with the controller showing a red LED is that the battery has died. (And while the battery packs do wear out, they have a very long life if not abused)

oh thats my bad, i meant < 3 years

Ah, I see. That makes much, much more sense.
