V5RC, Would a X-drive be good for Override?

Looking at the new game and how last season my team used a 6 motor drive near the end, the new 55w limit has me wondering which drive is gonna take the top now the 6 motor is basically gone.

I doubt X drive will be used much in this game or really in any future game too to be honest. Tank is simple powerful and easiest to build and build around and I doubt that will change this season 55w tank is probably going to be common place.

probably the most common, but is it the most effective? (I’m totally bias towards x-drives, my team almost always builds an omni directional drive train of some sort)

X drive has less power then tank and in my opinion you don’t need the extra maneuverability especially if you design good alligners

Has anyone thought of using the H drive for this competition? just wondering.

An x drive would have less pushing power than a tank drive (approx 1/√2 times less torque) but would theoretically have a greater speed than tank (approx √2 times faster). While maneuverability is great for this game with such an open field, pushing power is probably more necessary, given the endgame.

We had geared H-drive last year 4 motors geared on the sides and a motor geared on the middle. In my opinion, it was awesome

Just out of curiosity, did you guys have any odometry sensors/PID? I have been wondering about using an H-Drive like this, but I also want to use odometry sensors on the middle of the robot, which is where that middle motor goes. If you did, did you just put your wheel like normal then stick an odom through the axle in between the motor and wheel?

No for last year, but we are going to use H-drive again and put in odometry BEHIND the sideways wheels

The reason that I was asking about the configuration that I mentioned is because, as far as I know, you absolutely NEED your odoms to be dead center, not right behind dead center.
