How Mean is your 'bot?
P.S. Yeah it’s real. The photo is no trick. It was taken from a video as a single frame.

thats cool has the flame ever burned the robot or melted any thing yet if it hasent thats good:D
I actually built it quite a while ago but no I made very sure that it wouldn’t harm my robot. I can’t imagine what would’ve happened if it caught on fire:eek: .I also had another one that had two bottle rockets mounted on a pan-tilt system and a roman candle on a turret. They were all attached to model rocket igniters which were lit by a servo. That one was cool but I don’t have any pics.
I do think that I saw that video, (did I?) did you have it posted anywhere, and if you did, can you give us a link?
Alas the video was on the original www.vexrobotics.com site . I’ll try to find some way to post the video again since I can’t here.
you can upload videos there, you just need a gmail account
if you need one email me, I have about 100 invites
Guys,
That is not cool. It is just plain dumb.
If you don’t realize it already, then I probably won’t convince you by posting this message; but trust me, it most dertainly is both boneheaded and dangerous.
Blake
Yeah but it was fun.
That’s why he tested his flamethrower on his relatively rugged robot
Of course it was dangerous, but like he said, it was cool. I would love to do something like that, even though it is dangerous. Sometimes you have to be willing to take risks, especially with robotics.
Guys,
About “being an active participant in every form of FIRST robotics” - I’m pretty sure that if what you are doing isn’t safe, then it isn’t FIRST Robotics - And this simply isn’t safe. If you think I’m wrong, ask Mr. Kamen.
About “being willing to take risks, especially with robotics” - Well, that is just about the most peculiar combination of words I have read all year. Just exactly where is that rule written down? Please explain why it is necessary to risk burning down a home “with robotics”.
Blake
Thanks guys. I appreciate your agreement. I’ll try to get some video up soon.
what’s next? dart -shooting robots? I personally think that robots should be useful not destructive or dangerous. I keep seeing the words “fun” and "cool"attached to the enthusiastic comments i hope u guys realize that fire can leave you homeless thanks but i don’t wanna c my crib turned into ashes…
quick question for moeman
for the “flamethrower” part of the robot shown in the picture where did you come across the force to push the button that releases the fluid which makes the flame spray out did you use a pnuematics system or what it looks like you would have to use your hand to start the flame thrower:confused:
All,
Some concerns have been raised about the example we are setting for younger Vex users who see this thread. After thinking about it for a while, I agree that these concerns are valid.
This robot definitely crosses the “if you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re going to get hurt” line. I’m worried that some young, eager, Vex user will come in here who doesn’t know what he’s doing, copy what you’ve shown here, and burn his house down.
For that reason, I’m going to lock this thread, and keep a close eye on any future “Destructive Robot” discussions.
Thanks for your Understanding!
