VEX doesn’t officially support Linux, however, the VSCode VEX extension can be used sometimes, you will need some udev rules and possibly need to install additional dependancies for the C++ toolchain. search the forum, there are a few topics with some details.

Will the vex brain still connect and function the same way with Linux? Thinking about switching to Linux on my laptop, but don’t want it to not work with the robot.

As I said previously, we do not officially support Linux. It’s pretty much on you to get it working.
