From my use of it, I’ve seen that Wikipedia is best used as a reference. It’s a bit too verbose.

Lots of professors at university will not except Wikipedia as a reliable source. It is a good place to find sources because of the links and references at the bottom of each search page though. When writing a research paper or something similar, don’t cite Wikipedia. Wikipedia pages can be edited by anyone. Its good practice to find reliable sources that have been published.
When one needs quick knowledge about something though, Wikipedia is fine.

I teach robotics to middle school students and I taught math for over a decade to middle school and high school students. I would never give that Wikipedia page to middle school students to help them understand what torque is. This is the first paragraph:

If I wanted to, I could have easily gone to wikipedia… but I didnt. @Ethan5956F, I suggest you listen and take on board what @sankeydd and @PenguinHasAGun have said. You are not understand. If you use wikipedia your whole life- you are digging a deep hole. As mentioned before, university professors wont accept answers from wiki, so using the website, which information can easily be changed on, wont last you long…

I disagree with this. Although it is true that most teachers/professors will not accept answers from wikis like Wikipedia, I don’t think using Wikipedia above other sources can make it impossible or even that hard to be able to look at other sources to cite from instead.

Wikipedia is, probably, one of the most valuable internet based resources humankind ever had. Millions of volunteers spent hundred millions of man hours editing Wikipedia entries.
Just because you do not understand its value, doesn’t mean that you should belittle it or brag that you don’t use it.
Please, take some time to check with Wikipedia next time - maybe you will learn something useful.
The reason many university professors do that is because they want you to learn how to do an independent research, so that one day you can become a Wikipedia editor yourself and start contributing back to the community.
And just because a few rogue users find ways to slip past the regular editors and vandalize few entries here or there, doesn’t diminish tremendous value that millions of the Wikipedia volunteers had created over the years.

I understand the value of wiki, but in this case it didnt help. Pluys arguing about it now is useless. My question was answered agesssss ago, but then others started arguing about torque and wiki. So how about you talk to them? Why just me?
